Operational Staff

Adam Y – Supercar Fleet Technician

Adam is 6th Gear’s engine specialist, with intimate knowledge of all Supercar’s from Ferrari V8’s to Lamborghini V12’s. Adam has been with 6th Gear since 2012 and is a keen classic car enthusiast and guitar player

Andy C – Operations Director

Andy has been a passionate car enthusiast since a very early age. A chartered electrical engineer, Andy has a very ‘hands on’ approach within 6th Gear and can often be found underneath a Supercar helping the technicians to fix an issue! Also keen racer, he has raced in over 100 races and achieved the accolade of Radical European Masters Champion in 2014. Andy is now racing in a Ligier LMP3 Le Mans prototype in the Le mans Cup . Andy is proud to be one of the co-founders of 6th Gear.

Ian G – Events Manager

Ian has worked in the Supercar experience industry for over a decade in various roles. Ian first came to 6th Gear as an Ariel Atom instructor (famous for the Youtube Deer experience!) and has worked his way through the ranks to event manger. A qualified approved driving instructor, Ian ensures all 6th Gear’s days run like clockwork.

Marc B- Event Media Manager

Marc has over 20 years experience in motorsport photography and has worked with 6th Gear since 2010. A keen skier outside of work, he enjoys spending time in the French Alps flying down the pistes.

Owen T – Supercar Fleet Maintenance Manager

Owen joined 6th Gear in 2010 and progressed from mechanic to manager of our operations in 2014. A keen motorsport enthusiast Owen holds a national rally licence and when time off allows competes in UK national rally events

Sophie M – Customer Services Manager

Sophie is a happy, outgoing person who enjoys her customer services role immensely. Outside of work Sophie enjoys travelling and socialising with her friends.

Tracy-Jane C – Driver Registration Manager

Tracy-Jane is a fun-loving, outgoing member of the team with over 20 years of hospitality experience. Tracy-Jane is a Supercar enthusiast whose favourite Supercar is the Bugatti Veyron Cinque! Tracy-Jane manages the customer registration team and ensures that our customers days run like clockwork.

Instructors

Andy W – Supercar & Truck Instructor

Andy is an experienced racer who started Autograss racing at 15 years of age in a mk1 fiesta. After this Andy moved to circuit racing winning club championships along the way, then won ELF/Silverstone single seater championship the same year. Andy then progressed into saloon car racing with backing from many sponsors, winning the National XR Championship in 2002 with 1 round to go. Andy is currently coaching several novice drivers who have achieved top 4 placings in the overall championships they competed in with fastest laps, most places gained and lap records to hand. Andy also is an experienced Supercar and truck instructor.

Darren S – Supercar Instructor

Darren is a long time motorsport enthusiast. In his younger years Darren was a successful rally driver having competed in the Lombard RAC rally in 1989 and 1990 in a Opel Manta Group B rally car. Away from work Darren enjoys travelling and spending time with his family and is currently coaching his son Charlie in karting.

Don K – Supercar Instructor

Don is our resident high speed ride expert, has worked for 6th Gear since early in 2010 and is usually found scaring customers to death in our Focus RS. In over 40 years of competition experience, Don has competed in over 500 circuit racing and rallying events, culminating in two race and three rally championships. A works MG driver for many years, Don was the first driver to rally an Austin Allegro in 1974! A keen football fan he has supported Birmingham City since he was 10.

Gawaine C – Supercar Instructor

Gawaine is a hardened Rally competitor, being the current British production rallycross champion. A winner of many previous rally championships including the BTRDA group N championship in 1999, as well as the National Tarmac group championships in 1995 and 2001. An instructor for over 20 years, Gawaine is usually found in the passenger seat of an Ariel Atom ensuring his customers have a great time. A keen cyclist, he has just returned from the transcontinental cycle race, which is a 2500 mile road race though most of the countries of Europe!

Nigel G – Supercar Instructor

Nigel has been racing in various championships since 1999. He now competes in endurance championships in a modified Audi TT which he shares with another driver. A long time instructor for 6th Gear, Nigel ensures all his customers have great time.

Rich D – Supercar Instructor

Rich is a qualified Approved Driving Instructor, who now teach’s and assess’s other ADI’s. Having joined 6th Gear initially as a junior Supercar experience instructor, Rich has now progressed to circuit coaching and enjoys helping customers get the best out of their experience.

Richard T – Supercar Instructor

Richard is a long time racer who has raced against some of the Formula 1 greats including Aryton Senna. A winner of several single seater championships including Formula Ford 2000, he was awarded the Grovewood award for the most up and coming Driver of the year in 1980. Still a keen racer now, Richard competes in historic Formula 3 races at great circuits such as Castle Combe, Spa, Monaco and Silverstone. Richard has been an instructor for 6th Gear since 2010.

Roger O – Supercar Instructor

Roger has been involved with motorsport for over 40 years and was the Castle Combe 1974 Formula Ford champion. Since then, Roger has competed in many categories, with many championship wins. Having retired from racing now, Roger mainly instructs for 6th Gear and manages his son Roger (junior) who is also a keen racer.

Russell M – Supercar Instructor

Russell is one of 6th Gear’s longest serving instructors, starting with us back in 2010. A keen racer in various championships, he has won four different championships and is the 2015 Atom endurance cup champion. Russell usually coaches our customers in our Ariel Atoms (in all weathers!) and enjoys all things car related.

Stewert L – Supercar Instructor

Stewert is 6th Gear’s longest serving instructor, having been with the company since 2009. A keen racer, he has won several championships including the modified Jaguar V12 championship four times. Stewert also undertakes many other driving roles where required including stunt driving, rally coaching and 4×4 instructing.

Wayne B – Supercar Instructor

Wayne has worked for 6th Gear since 2011 and is usually found coaching our customers in a Lamborghini Gallardo. Wayne has raced in numerous championships including Stock Hatch, Hot Hatch and Britcar championships.

Guide to a Supercar Driving Experience Day

Rewind about ten years or so and there was little in the way of a fast car driving experience available in the UK. The best supercar driving experience days didn’t even include iconic supercars from manufacturers like Lamborghini or Aston Martin.

DriveMe Experience was founded to change all that – even being the pioneers of junior driving experience days. Aimed purely at children between the ages of 10-16 with a minimum height of 4ft 10 and are now hugely popular with over 4000 juniors being customers of DriveMe Experience in 2016.

As trends change certain supercars become more popular than others. For example when a new James Bond film is released, an Aston Martin experience is always a big draw. The Aston Martin DB9 driving experience makes a fantastic gift for someone special, and since DriveMe has the full fleet from this famous British manufacturer an Aston Martin driving day in general is a fantastic thrill.

So what should you look out for when searching for a supercar driving experience day or indeed just a supercar experience?

Well there seems to be a lot of choice out there, but most of the names tend to be third party agencies whilst there are very few companies who actually put on the experience themselves.

Popular Supercars

Right now the Audi R8 driving experience together with the Ariel Atom driving experience are DriveMe’s most popular supercar experience. Closely followed by the Ferrari 458 experience.

The Ferrari 458 driving experience is lauded as being the best modern Ferrari of recent times. Once again since DriveMe own and operate a full fleet of Ferrari’s so a Ferrari experience day for someone you know with a passion for this great Italian manufacturer will make you very popular indeed!

Interestingly, one of DriveMe Experience increasingly popular sellers is the lorry driving experience. In fact lorry driving experience days are such fun they seem to appeal to all ages! From a 12 year old boy to an 80 year old lady, we’ve been amazed at the sheer uniform appeal of our exclusive lorry driving experience. Ok so you don’t get to go 100mph in a 40 ton truck, but trundling along come rain or shine in a DAF truck with 16 automatic gears is truly enormous fun.

It looks like 2019 already is popular with those wishing to undergo the fabulous Lamborghini driving experience. Lamborghini driving experiences are traditionally our top seller and this is reflected in the fact that kids also seem to want to involve themselves in our junior Lamborghini driving experience. As long as they are at least 5ft they can actually drive a Lamborghini equipped with dual controls and an instructor sat in the passenger seat watching their every move! It’s interesting that searching online for Lamborghini experience UK brings up DriveMe as the most popular choice for a Lamborghini experience. Perhaps this is because we invented it!

Back in the early 2000’s a Ferrari driving experience was far and away the top selling car driving experience. It’s interesting as we have mentioned before, how trends and tastes change over the years. Two packages which have overtaken the Ferrari experience UK are the Aston Martin DB9 experience, the general Ford Focus RS driving experience and the Porsche driving experience.

Returning to truck driving experience days its worth pointing out we offer these to kids as well! Maybe a supercar track day has more appeal to some 12 year olds, but for a truck driving experience to actually be available to a child is something DriveMe put into practice about 5 years ago. Typical DriveMe Experience

Typically on a DriveMe Experience event day, facilities are second to none with great quality catering available, a large marquee to provide cover from that inclement weather we are all used to here in the UK. Other optional extras such as Pay and Drive are available on the day aimed at those who wish to drive extra supercars as well as their pre-booked choices. Friends and family are all welcome and if they bring their driving license too they can pick a supercar and also partake in a fast car experience too.

There is a difference though between a supercar day and a race day experience. DriveMe doesn’t really cater for hardened track enthusiasts – we leave this to others. What we do superbly is to provide a supercar track day experience usually as a gift, for someone who is very special.

We get asked often at DriveMe how much a supercar driving experience costs. Of course many of our valued customers will spend as little at £79 or so purchasing a Ferrari experience for a family member for example. Others will go to the extreme and spend £495 or more on what may end up being a full day driving experience.

Driving experience days for two are also catered for by DriveMe. Perhaps that someone special in your life fancies an Audi driving experience while you yourself might crave the more traditional Aston Martin driving experience. We can cater for everyone!

Circuits and locations

At DriveMe Experience HQ in Solihull, our friendly call centre staff will endeavour to answer all your queries. They are used to being asked a variety of questions from where exactly are the venues, which Supercars are the best to drive, to how fast are they willing to let me drive. Working hands on with our garage team, our customer service team are more than happy to help any question that you may have! We don’t do road driving of course but the guidance offered will enable a caller to be pointed in the direction of a Lamborghini track day which we do. A track day driving experience as we’ve said makes a superb and innovative gift.

In the first few years of DriveMe’s existence the company operated solely from Elvington which was so popular with customers looking for driving experience days York. It was here in fact that we ran our first driving experience days for kids which at first only included the Ferrari, but then expanded to include a junior drive a Ferrari experience. However the bulk of DriveMe Experience’ business is still aimed at adults and the Aston Martin driving experience UK is without doubt one of our most popular. Whether a V8 or V12 engine these British icons make a superb sound that makes your hair stand on end!

We’ve already covered how a race car experience doesn’t really describe what we do here at DriveMe. What we do exceptionally well is to provide superb supercar drive days for the general public many of whom are simply not experienced in getting behind the wheel of a 200mph supercar.

In 2016 DriveMe saw around 45,000 customers drive its supercar fleet which just goes to prove track experience days don’t seem to be losing any of their popularity at all. In 2017 DriveMe are looking to update their fleet with one or two additions which will inevitably help track driving days be at the top of the publics wish list. A Porsche driving experience is catered for by our stunning 997 Turbo a wolf in sheep’s clothing if ever there was one. It’s possibly more accurate to describe our Jaguar F type ‘R’ as a sportscar driving experience rather than a package which would come under race car days. The F Type Jaguar is a gentleman’s express albeit extremely rapid! Another vehicle which would more appropriately come under a sports car experience is the Aston Martin DBS. Famous for its role in the James bond film ‘Casino Royale’ it’s ever popular and simply lacks a pair of machine guns in the front grill! So where do we see driving days going in the future? Well here at DriveMe we firmly believe driving experience days for kids will grow hugely in popularity. The market for fast car experience days for adults is buoyant and steady. The boom in the experience driving days for kids however is large. In this sector the Lamborghini driving experience is apparently the most popular search term on the internet closely followed by the Jaguar F type driving experience. Together with the Aston Martin DB9 experience it seems our customers are turning more and more to British manufactured supercars. Perhaps this is the result of a patriotic public after Brexit!
