Snowdonia Aerospace Centre is based on the North Wales coast between Barmouth and Harlech within the view of the Snowdonia National Park.
The Airfield is situated close to the popular 300 acre campsites – Shell Island, If you are coming from the North use the A55 and eith the A470 or A487 following signs for Harlech. Once at Harlech you are less than 10 minutes away, follow the A496 to Llanbedr and then turn Right following signs for Shell Island.
There is a local Train Station in Llanbedr which is a 20 minute leisurely walk.
The Snowdonia Aerospace Centre is located at Llanbedr Airfield which is situated on the North Wales coast in Llanbedr near Harlech. The airfield opened in 1941 as part of the RAF Fighter Command’s 12 Group. It has a fascinating RAF and wartime history.
During the Second World War, RAF Llanbedr was home to thirty-two different RAF Squadrons on rotation which flew a variety of aircraft (Spitfire, Mustang, Typhoon, Anson, Lysander and Martinet). The airfield also served as a Royal Air Force V bomber dispersal airfield and, more recently, used for military weapons training.
Snowdonia Aerospace LLP owns and maintains Snowdonia Aerospace Centre at Llanbedr Airfield. It is proposing to develop the site into a spaceport in parallel with its current activities as a dedicated Centre of Excellence for R&D and testing of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Robotics and Emerging Technologies.
On holiday in the area? The venue is located next to Shell Island which offers a caravan and camp site, there are many other camping facilities nearby.
The circuit is 1.5 miles long and uses 2 of the main runways that are 90 metres wide, connected by a perimeter track, all of which are smooth tarmac that will enable drivers to reach high speeds.
